Victoria Wood is unquestionably Britain's funniest and best-loved female TV star, winning the hearts of audiences with her brilliant character monologues, comic songs and observational comedy as well as producing hilarious, and often poignant dramas. Working regularly with the same group of acclaimed actors – including Julie Walters, Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston and Susie Blake – she has built up an unrivalled body of work. This extensive collection of BBC titles contains some of her finest programmes, from her BBC breakthrough As Seen on TV which included the infamous Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let's Do It) and Acorn Antiques (also presented here on one DVD) to the one-off 80 minute show Victoria Wood: Live in Your Own Home. The collection showcases her comic script writing in the six playlets of Victoria Wood Presents, focusing on the various annoyances of modern life – from health farms to video dating – and the feature length drama Pat and Margaret in which she and Julie Walters play very different sisters, reunited after 27 years apart. It also includes the documentary series Victoria’s Empire in which Victoria Wood undertakes a fascinating quest for the legacy of Queen Victoria, visiting places around the world that bear their name, from Fort Victoria in Ghana to Victoria, Nova Scotia
Consultant surgeon Sheila Sabatini rules her operating theatre with a sharp tongue and a withering sense of humour. Her dedication and determination to succeed in a maledominated world make her a force to be reckoned with, and her colleagues at the Gillies Hospital have learned the hard way not to mess with her! Sheila’s intimidating manner may hide a soft centre, but only those who dare to get close enough discover that; they include administrator and best friend, Joyce, and anaesthetist Jonathan Haslam, a man brave enough to pursue a romantic relationship with the spiky Mrs. Sabatini... Nichola McAuliffe gives a memorable performance as Sheila Sabatini, with Duncan Preston (Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV) starring as Jonathan Haslam. Featuring scripts by Graeme Garden among other contributors, Surgical Spirit was a huge success with the viewing public, running for an impressive seven series between 1989 and 1995. This release collects all seven series on DVD for the first time.

Matt Charman, Oscar-nominated screenwriter of Stephen Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, and Mammoth Screen, producers of Poldark and Victoria, are producing a big budget TV series based on the book. Maxwell Knight was a paradox. A jazz obsessive and nature enthusiast (he is the author of the definitive work on how to look after a gorilla), he is seen today as one of MI5's greatest spymasters, a man who did more than any other to break up British fascism during the Second World War - in spite of having once belonged to the British Fascisti himself. He was known to his agents and colleagues simply as M and was rumoured to be part of the inspiration for the character M in the James Bond series. Knight became a legendary spymaster despite an almost total lack of qualifications. What set him apart from his peers was a mercurial ability to transform almost anyone into a fearless secret agent. He was the first in MI5 to grasp the potential of training female agents. M is about more than just one man, however. In it, Hemming reveals for the first time the names and stories of seven men and women recruited by Knight on behalf of MI5 and then asked to infiltrate the most dangerous political organizations in Britain at that time. Until now their identities have been kept secret outside MI5. Drawn from every walk of life, they led double lives - often at great personal cost - in order to protect the country they loved. With the publication of this book, it will be possible at last to celebrate the lives of these courageous, selfless individuals. Drawing on declassified documents, private family archives and interviews with retired MI5 officers as well as the families of MI5 agents, M reveals not just the shadowy world of espionage but a brilliant, enigmatic man at its centre. 1. Cartoon Network is a cable and satellite television channel created by Turner Broadcasting, a unit of Time Warner which primarily shows animated programming. The Australian version is available on Pay TV (Foxtel, Optus and Austar). It is also on 3 as a part of its new mobile TV service for $4 a month although this feed is merely a heavily repeated media stream of Cartoon Network's best shows. Telstra also broadcasts Cartoon Network on mobile service, though this is the same feed as seen on Foxtel. Neighbourhood Cable broadcasts the network in yet another feed in regional Victoria. SKY Network Television has broadcast the network in New Zealand, since 1997 originally during the day on SKY UHF preset channel 7 with Orange (later SKY 1, and now The Box) broadcasting during the evenings. The Cartoon Network became a separate 24-hour channel in New Zealand in 1998 when the SKY Digital service was launched. Cartoon Network Australia and Asia followed suit on 1 July 2001.
