Nikki Carr is a deliciously silly and hilarious comedian. Most recently known as the charismatic runner-up on NBC's 2014 season of Last Comic Standing, she propelled her way through the competition with quick and effective wit, hilariously relatable anecdotes, and the courage to laugh in the face of all the things she could cry about. Her trials and tribulations as a woman, mother, grandmother, and lesbian provide rich comic material. Born and raised in Bronx, NY, Nikki Carr spent her early life gearing up for her rightful place as a headlining comedian. Though Nikki was a "very silly child", her mother accepted and nurtured the performer in her. Entertaining and making others laugh came naturally. These gifts became her expression of happiness and love. When Carr started seeing shows like Def Comedy Jam, she realized she had found her calling and at 34 began her comedy career at the New York Comedy Club. About her start, Carr says, "[I] decided that being funny is all I've ever really known how to do! Now, you can get on TV for it? My very first show ended in a standing ovation! I gave myself five years to get onto TV. I did it in three. Then I just continued to do comedy, because I love it, and people enjoy and love and pay me because of it!" In 2000 Carr made her television debut on BET's Comic View and hasn't let up. She has been on Martin Lawrence's 1st Amendment Stand Up, Showtime's Stand Up for Family, and One Mic Stand with Kevin Hart, to name a few. She can be seen in the movies Golddigger Killer, Dynasty Pictures' Change the Game, and Charlie Murphy's Crash Comedy. Spending the end of 2014 touring the country on the Last Comic Standing Tour, Nikki Carr has hit a smooth stride. Her best is yet to come. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Nikki Carr. Once in a generation a woman comes along who changes everything. Tina Fey is not that woman, but she met that woman once and acted weird around her. Before 30 Rock, Mean Girls and 'Sarah Palin', Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live, from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor, from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.
A hilarious tour through Canada's history, from the nation's most trusted news source: The Beaverton. There is a new media empire in Canada--and unlike others, it is honest about being 'fake news.' Its satirical headlines have been misinforming Canadians across the country and the world, using parody to shine a light on the nation. What started as an immensely popular online newspaper led to a hit TV show delivering biting commentary on Canadian culture, politics, and the biggest news stories. Now, in its first book, The Beaverton looks back over Canada's past to show how we became the ridiculous nation we are today. Through the lens of the venerable Beaverton, one of Canada's oldest and proudest newspaper, the editors share the headlines and articles that defined the times. From the challenging days of colonization ('Angry New France mother calls son by using all of his 329 middle and family names') to the earliest days of nationhood ('Paternity test confirms John A. actual father of Confederation'), from war heritage ('Vimy Ridge: Canada becomes a nation after killing Germans for Britain on French soil') right up to the twenty-first century ('Harper government offers apology to victims of first long-form census')--this is Canada like you've never seen it. Part mock-history, part fake scrapbook, and fully illustrated with original art and historical images,* The Beaverton Presents Glorious and/or Free is a hilarious and ruthless stab at our national myths and legends. And, like all great satire, it's funny because it's true. *Some 'images' adjusted to increase historical 'accuracy'
